Rob Corddry Did Not Get Shot In The Crotch For 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2'

Rob Corddry does a lot of outlandish things in "Hot Tub Time Machine 2," but one thing he avoided was getting shot in the crotch.

In the film, a sequel to 2009's "Hot Tub Time Machine," Corddry plays Lou, an egomaniacal monster who uses his time travel abilities to create an alternate universe where he is both the lead singer of Motley Crue (rechristened Motley Lou) and the inventor of Google (called, unsurprisingly, Lougle). During a party to celebrate his awesomeness, Lou is shot in the groin by an unseen assailant. That's where movie magic -- or "movie allusion," as Corddry called it -- took over.

"I said from day one, 'This is great. I'm not putting an explosive near my penis,'" Corddry said of the scene in an interview with HuffPost Entertainment. "This is exactly how it happened. I did the scene right before it. Then a guy dressed just like me -- who's my height and wearing the same wig -- walked up. I high-fived him. He stood there in my place, and I took a nap."

At 44, Corddry has built a career on playing likably unlikable characters, and Lou is no different. He's often horrible in the "Hot Tub Time Machine" franchise, but never truly irredeemable.

"All actors have an innate ability to do something that is conducive to this job," Corddry said. "Apparently mine is, what my manager likes to call, 'creepy but accessible.' Which is a funny way of saying likable. I can do likable and don't have to think about it. That's why I end up playing these kinds of characters, because chances are you're not going to end up hating the guy."

And should audiences want to see more of Lou in the future, Corddry would be down.

"I can't believe a movie called 'Hot Tub Time Machine' got made in the first place, so I'm pretty pleasantly surprised by the whole thing," Corddry said of the unlikely franchise. "But I don't want to fall into the same traps as a third one would normally fall into. I don't even know what they are exactly, but I was very wary of that in doing a sequel and making sure we didn't fall into traps. I would really study the part threes hard to avoid any mines."

Groin squibs, too, are probably off the table.
