For the first time since finding out long-time girlfriend Kristen Stewart had been cheating on him -- and subsequently breaking up with her -- Robert Pattinson appeared on a talk show. So it was with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" that he got to commiserate over a pint of Ben & Jerry's.
Pattinson was technically there as the launch point for his promotional tour in support of his forthcoming film "Cosmopolis," but of course the big breakup simply had to be discussed. And Stewart knows that the best way to talk about a bad breakup is over ice cream -- Karamel Sutra for Pattinson and Cherry Garcia for himself.
"We’re just a couple of gals talkin'," Stewart said. "The last time I had a bad breakup, Ben and Jerry got me through the tough times."
Although Pattinson did indulge in Stewart's peace offering, it wasn't without a bit of hesitation.
"I'm trying to avoid eating this, I'm going to split my Spanx," said a straight-faced Pattinson, who after all had to squeeze into a steel blue suit for his Monday evening "Cosmopolis" premiere at New York's Museum of Modern Art.
To make matters even more challenging for the "Twilight" heartthrob, Pattinson admitted to Stewart that he's never hired a publicist. That left the burden of dealing with the media on his shoulders. Perhaps if he had a publicist, Pattinson would have had a response for Stewart's public mea culpa.
"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," Stewart told People after incriminating photos of her and her "Snow White and the Huntsmen" director, Rupert Sanders, were released.
