Robert Pattinson As T.E. Lawrence: 'Twilight' Star Attached To 'Queen Of The Desert'

Robert Pattinson IS Lawrence Of Arabia?

Robert Pattinson is serious about becoming a serious actor. On the heels of working with David Cronenberg in "Cosmopolis," Variety reports that he's been cast alongside Naomi Watts in Werner Herzog's "Queen of the Desert."

Per the trade, Pattinson would play T.E. Lawrence in the film, British Army officer who became known as "Lawrence of Arabia" for his work in the Middle East during World War I. David Lean famously directed a 1962 film about Lawrence's life, with Peter O'Toole in the title role.

This new film would focus on Lawrence's relationship with Gertrude Bell (Watts), the famed British political operative and writer.

Bell's life has long been on the minds of Hollywood's elite. Angelina Jolie was attached to a Bell project last year with Ridley Scott set to direct. The Herzog film is not connected to Scott's planned feature, which might be on the back burner at the moment: Scott is busy directing "The Counselor," with Jolie's partner Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in starring roles.

Pattinson has begun making the press rounds again in the wake of the news that his long-time girlfriend Kristen Stewart cheated on him. The "Twilight" star ate ice cream with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" on Monday night and is scheduled to appear on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.

"Cosmopolis" is out in theaters on Friday.
