Robert Redford opens up about his childhood, losing his son to SIDS and his wife of two years, artist Sibylle Szaggars, in the new AARP magazine.
Redford, 74, is currently at Sundance, the independent film festival he founded and where he met German-born Sibylle, 53, in the late 90s. Thursday he opened the festival and laughed off a question about his retirement, saying he hasn't thought about it.

On the death of his son at 5 months in 1959:
"It was really hard. We were very young. I had my first theater job, which didn't pay much. We didn't know anything about SIDS, so the only thing you think is that you've done something wrong. As a parent, you tend to blame yourself. That creates a scar that probably never completely heals."
On Sibylle:
"She's a very special person. She's younger than I am, and European, which I like, so that's a whole new life.
On the movie he wants to make (other than a sequel to 'The Way We Were'):
"The other movie I want to make is about people who rediscover themselves in older love. They got together out of passion years earlier, but it flamed out and they went their separate ways. They get to be older and somehow come back into each other's lives and regain their relationship with a more mature love."
