Roberta Kaplan, Attorney For Edie Windsor, On DOMA Victory (VIDEO)

Attorney Roberta Kaplan, who represented Edie Windsor in the historic case that resulted in the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) being overturned, came by HuffPost Live to discuss how she became involved in one of the greatest victories for the LGBT community in American history.

In the clip above Kaplan speaks with HuffPost anchor Ahmed Shihab-Eldin about how she came to represent Windsor in the Supreme Court case, and how the original ruling on DOMA in 1996 was unconstitutional in the original House report, which used the term "moral disapproval" when talking about gay people.

While defending Windsor, Kaplan made a point to bring up the language originally used against same-sex marriage, and use it to support their case.

"It's the opposite of the moral disapproval that was in the House report," Kaplan said. "It's now a moral understanding that people have that gay people and their relationships, and our relationships, are no different than the relationships and lives of anyone else."
