It was just this week that The Versailles Models of 1973 were honored at the 2011 HuffPost Game Changers Awards for their role in the history-making "Grand Divertissement a Versailles" fashion show-- and now comes news that Robin Givhan will write a book about the women and that extraordinary event.
One Night at Versailles: The Fashion Showdown that Changed Everything will be published by Penguin Press and is "an in-depth look at how the 'Grand Divertissement a Versailles' set a diverse group of American designers against the lions of French fashion in a seismic cultural event and turning point in the history of American fashion," reports Publishers Marketplace.
That legendary evening in France was the first time the world hailed American design and black models.
So it's fitting that Givhan, special correspondent for style and culture for Newsweek and The Daily Beast, is penning the book since she is the first (and only) fashion writer to win the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, in 2006. Givhan is also the author of Michelle: Her First Year as First Lady, which chronicles and critics one of our favorite topics--FLOTUS fashion.
Earlier this year Oscar de la Renta and Stephen Burrows, two of the five American designers that participated in the historic "Grand Divertissement a Versailles" fashion show, hosted a tribute luncheon at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art to honor The Versailles Models of 1973.
