Robin Roberts, 'GMA' Cast Praise Ann Curry: We Have 'Such Great Respect' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Robin Roberts Praises Ann Curry

The cast of ABC's "Good Morning America" sat down with CNN host Piers Morgan on Thursday to discuss their talk show success and rival with NBC's "Today." "GMA's" Robin Roberts took a moment to praise former "Today" co-host Ann Curry and comment on her departure from NBC.

The morning show wars reached fever pitch this year when "GMA" broke the "Today" show's 16-year winning streak as the number one morning program on television. After a messy "Today" shake-up, in which Curry was replaced by her colleague Savannah Guthrie, "GMA" shattered the NBC show's 17-year streak of winning the coveted A35-54 demographic. The NBC program regained its top spot during the network's round-the-clock coverage of the 2012 Olympics, but "GMA" beat "Today" in total viewers as soon as the games were over, keeping the two shows in close competition with one another.

Speaking of the rivalry, Roberts noted that the "GMA" cast did not "take joy in what [was] happening other places." The former star athlete used a sports metaphor to describe the cast's focus.

"You concentrate on your team, you don't concentrate on others," Roberts said. "But let me tell you, the morning that Ann [Curry] said her goodbye, we were watching. And on our program, which you don't see very often, we spent the last couple of minutes talking about Ann Curry...and appreciating her, and such great respect."
