The man detained in Aruba as a suspect in Robyn Gardner's disappearance allegedly claims that the missing woman went swimming twice on the evening when she vanished.
Gary Giordano says that even though Gardner was groggy from vodka and sleeping pills, his travel companion went swimming two times on Aug. 2, a source told ABC News.
The first time, Gardner cut her toe and returned to shore. The second time, a strong current pulled her out to sea, the source quotes Giordano as saying.
Another ABC source reportedly backed up Giordano's version of events. A third source told the network that the suspect and Gardner never took a dip.
Another unnamed witness who spotted Gardner and Giordano at a restaurant just before she disappeared told ABC News it was unlikely she would have gone swimming, considering her fancy hairstyle and make-up.

In an interview with The Huffington Post earlier this month, Gardner's boyfriend also doubted that the 35-year-old would have gone snorkeling late in the day.
"She didn't go in the water at 6 p.m. -- I know she didn't. She would get her hair messed up, she would get her makeup messed up," said Richard Forester, who believed Gardner was vacationing with her family, not a man she reportedly met on an online dating website.
Giordano, 50, has been detained since Aug. 5 when he was taken into custody as he prepared to fly back to the United States. Investigators became suspicious due to what they say are inconsistencies in his version of events.
Authorities believe Giordano took out a $1.5 million life insurance policy on Gardner before the trip. He reportedly attempted to cash out the policy days after her disappearance.
Giordano's attorney has said the Maryland businessman is not responsible for any wrongdoing and is assisting investigators.
Gardner and Giordano were not romantically involved, though they were close friends, according to a new report on RadarOnline.com.
"They met on Match.com and went out a 'date' but it didn't work out and they stayed friends," Gardner's friend Lianne Delawter told the website. "It wasn't a date-date, they were never seeing each other."
Delawter says Gardner only accepted Giordano's invitation to go on the trip to Aruba because she had just lost her job as a dental assistant.
"It was one of those change your life moments and she wanted to get out of dodge," Delawter said, according to Radar. "Here comes Gary putting on the charm and offers her a vacation using his Marriott points, and says, 'Lets get away.'"
Officials in Aruba believe Gardner is dead. Authorities launched a new search for Gardner's remains on Monday.
