Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree 2011: Enormous Evergreen Arrives In NYC (SLIDESHOW)

SLIDESHOW: Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Arrives In NYC

It's beginning to look a little like Christmas in New York.

A 74-foot, 75-year-old Norway Spruce was cut down in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania Wednesday and arrived in Rockefeller Center early Friday morning. Over the next two weeks the enormous evergreen will get spruced up with "30,000 multi-colored, energy-efficient LED Christmas lights strung over five miles of wire" and topped with a star containing 25,000 Swarovski crystals. A grand lighting ceremony is scheduled for November 30th.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be outside 30 Rock until January 7th, and will be available for viewing each day from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and for all 24 hours of Christmas Day.

After January 7th, the tree will be turned into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Workers erected the first Christmas tree at the site in 1931, according to CBS News. The first lighting ceremony was in 1933.
