Roller Skating Rink Comes To The High Line

LOOK: Roller Rink Comes To The High Line

CHELSEA -- The High Line is giving people a whole new reason to visit its popular public plaza at 30th Street and 10th Avenue -- a summer skating rink.

The outdoor roller rink, welcoming skaters July 28, will be open daily until September 26, with $10 admission for kids and $12 tickets for adults. The first 500 people to show up at the rink the first two days it's open will get free admission thanks to the Japanese retailer UNIQLO, which is presenting the rink as part of its support for High Line maintenance.

The 800-foot rink, with access to the food and drink vendors of the adjacent Lot on Tap, will also offer theme nights throughout the summer, with more details to be announced in coming weeks.

The white asphalt rink, run by Friends of the High Line and United Skates of America, will be surrounded by steel beam benches and bright orange barriers.

It will be open Sunday through Wednesday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Skates are available at the rink and are included in admission fees.
