That awkward moment when your dad thinks your rival will best you in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) must have been pretty bummed when his father, former Congressman Ron Paul, admitted that it's likely Donald Trump will become the GOP's candidate for president.
"Realistically is Trump going to be the nominee at this point?" NewsMax's Steve Mazlberg asked on Wednesday.
After a long pause, Paul grudgingly conceded that, "at this point it certainly is realistic."
Still, he said his son "may well surprise everybody."
In recent polls, Rand has nabbed a mere 2.7 percent of voters' support. Trump is in the lead with 37.4 percent.
The elder Paul has unsuccessfully run for the Republican nomination twice.
In a statement, the former congressman rebuked the idea that he was dismissing his son's chances. He said that the question he was responding to was "poorly worded" and said that "as usual the media can't get anything right."
