Ron Swanson's Turkey Burger Recipe: 'Parks And Recreation' Food Made Real

'Parks And Recreation' Joke Brought To Real Life

For Ron Swanson, the more meat the better. And the more fried, the even better.

The fictional boss on the NBC hit sitcom "Parks and Recreation," played by Nick Offerman, is a lumbering outdoorsman/government employee who hates the government and prefers to spend his time hunting, woodworking and eating food cut from the largest, beefiest of animals. And when, in last week's episode, health-nut employee Chris, played by Rob Lowe, proposes switching out the office's wildly unhealthy hamburgers for leaner, organic turkey burgers, Swanson greets the news with confusion and horror.

In fact, he didn't even know what a turkey burger was. When Chris asks him if he's ever had one, Ron responds, "Is that a fried turkey leg inside a grilled hamburger? If so, yes. Delicious."

It was a joke on the show, but the "Parks and Rec"-loving foodies on the internet decided to try out Swanson's version of the turkey burger. Eater.com worked out a recipe and tested it out, to very positive results. Click over to Eater for a full pictorial feature and recipe.
