"The alien has landed," the actress joked on Instagram.

You remember that scene in "Les Misérables" where Fantine has all her hair cut off? Rose McGowan pretty much just did that IRL. Only she was happy about it, not crying enough to win Anne Hathaway an Oscar.

The actress and director has been sporting a pretty short hairdo for a while now. But this week, she decided to shave off the rest. And she documented the whole process on Instagram. Lucky for us! Here she is sitting in her hairstylist's chair as he first puts buzzer to scalp.

This could have gone a lot of different directions, you know? It's a risky move. But it turned out pretty great. Apparently, McGowan is one of those women -- like Charlize Theron and Natalie Portman -- with a face so beautiful that it looks even better with almost no hair at all. She unveiled her new look by joking, "The alien has landed."

McGowan hasn't yet spoken about why, specifically, she went for this new look. (We reached out to her, and will update this post if we hear back.) But she described it on Instagram as "liberating" to have such short hair.

No hair don't care. Honestly, it's liberating.

For the record, we totally care! But in a positive way.

We're certainly more supportive of this than we were the last time McGowan made headlines mere days ago, for criticizing Caitlyn Jenner being honored at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Maybe this new haircut is even some kind of Cersei-style penance for that misstep? If so, the excellence of the look kind of defeats the purpose of the punishment.
