The royal couple's official US itinerary has just been released, and LA is rolling out the red carpet while pre-emptively clamping down on the paparazzi. For Will and Kate's part, they seem to be educating themselves about LA before visiting (Downtown has homeless people,but it's going through a "renaissance"!) while scheduling a few things that royal people do best: polo matches, hobnobbing with politicos, sleeping in $10,800 per night hotel suites, and speechifying at charity events.
Friday, July 8
Arrive in Los Angeles: British ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald is meeting the royal couple at the airport.
Variety's Venture Capital & New Media Summit at the Beverly Hilton hotel: Will and Kate will be promoting the development of London's own version of Silicon Valley -- "Tech City." British and American venture capitalists and "technologists" (love the British vocabulary lesson) will be in attendance.
Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay's shindig in Hancock Park: This "working reception" will be a chance for California's finest politicians to hobnob with the royal couple -- no word on who will be in attendance yet.
Saturday: July 9
The Foundation Polo Challenge at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club: Buy VIP tickets to see William play polo and Kate stun the fashion world in a new dress, all sans personal stylist. Lunch will be prepared by Food Network's Giada de Laurentiis, and we're guessing there will be some epic hat sightings.
BAFTA's "Brits To Watch" black tie dinner at the Belasco Theater: William is president of BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), and he'll be delivering a short speech. 42 super-lucky "emerging" British actors and actresses have been hand selected to sup amongst Hollywood's movers and shakers in the hopes that a few will catch their "big break."
Sunday: July 10
Tusk USA Benefit at a private home: William is patron of this conservation and development organization focused on Africa, and he's paying a visit to the American branch with Kate at a private party.
Visit to Inner-City Arts school in Downtown LA: Will and Kate will have a chance to practice (or show off!) their parental skills. The couple will spend time with inner city children and watch them paint, do pottery, dance, and act.
Service Nation: Mission Serve Job Fair At Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City: William will deliver a speech. Both will do meet-and-greets with military families and help assemble care packages for the troops stationed in Afghanistan.
