Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) was elected to Congress from Arizona's 7th District Tuesday, defeating libertarian Joe Cobb.

Gallego resigned from the state's House of Representatives to focus on his congressional campaign. In the state legislature, he served as his party's assistant minority leader.

He defeated three other Democrats in the primary. The majority-Latino district is generally considered a safely Democratic one.
