Would you mind taking the time to say this sentence out loud, pretty please? That probably took you about 4.9 seconds, aka the amount of time it took for a 14-year-old boy from good ol’ Kentucky to solve a three-by-three Rubik’s Cube on Saturday, setting a world record in the process.
According to speedcubing rules (yes, those exist), Lucas Etter was allowed 15 seconds to look at the cube and strategize before picking it up, thus beginning his time. When he did grab hold of it, he became the first person ever to solve the puzzle (on the record) in less than five seconds. I dare you to type this one sentence in less than five seconds. Try again. Try again.
That’s what we thought.
