Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani sharply criticized the Obama administration on Sunday for reading suspected terrorist Faisal Shahzad his Miranda rights, saying that the suspect should have been declared an "enemy combatant."
The one-time presidential candidate also took on the White House for pursuing what he called a "policy of political correctness."
"I would not have given him Miranda warnings after a couple of hours of questioning," Giuliani said on ABC's "This Week." "I would have declared him an enemy combatant. I would have asked the president to declare him an enemy combatant. We could have questioned him for a much longer period of time."
Giuliani added an emphasis on "political correctness" within the Obama administration led to missed signals on instances of domestic terrorism, including the attempted Times Square bombing.
"I'm just not talking about the Obama administration. I'm talking about our entire apparatus that has to be fixed. We missed the signals with the bomber in Detroit. We missed the signals with Major Hasan. We missed the signals here," Giuliani said, referring to the New York plot.
