Tony Clark, Marine Veteran, On Why He Runs (VIDEO)

WATCH: Why This Veteran Is Running 135 Miles

After a few years of competing in ultramarathons, Marine veteran Tony Clark decided his racing had been completely selfish. "I needed to use the talent I was given in order to help others," he says in the video above. The deserving group he decided to help? Veterans with PTSD. "If I can be a small part of being that voice, then it's a win-win for me."

In the video, the latest in a web series from DICK'S Sporting Goods about why runners do what they do, Clark explains that in order to prepare for the Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile race from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, Calif., he built an 8x8 heat box in his garage in Wichita, Kansas.

Despite the intense training in high temps, Clark says he is still able to find his groove when running, and when his mind does nudge him to quit, he reminds himself why he's doing this. "I don't run for myself," he says. "I run for others."

Watch the video above for more from Clark, then tell us in the comments why you run.
