Rush Limbaugh's show has been moved from Philadelphia's top conservative radio station.
Philadelphia's CBS affiliate WPHT will now air the more moderate radio host Michael Smerconish. The New York Times reported that the move, which has not yet gone into effect, did not appear to be related to the controversy surrounding Georgetown University Law student Sandra Fluke, who Limbaugh repeatedly attacked on air. He called her a slut and a prostitute for participating in a Congressional hearing about insurance-covered contraception.
In wake of Limbaugh's offensive comments, two radio stations dropped his show last month, stating that the host crossed the line. More than 100 advertisers disassociated themselves from Limbaugh's program—including AOL, the parent company of The Huffington Post—and pulled content from his show.
CBS Radio said that Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates Limbaugh's show, "recently notified WPHT they will be syndicating Rush Limbaugh on a new station in Philadelphia. As a result, we are pleased to be able to now showcase Michael, who is a well-known and acclaimed broadcaster in Philadelphia, in this new time period."
The move comes on the heels of Gov. Mike Huckabee's radio show debut on Monday. Huckabee, whose show now competes with Limbaugh in the same time slot, was advertised to stations as the "safer alternative" to Limbaugh.
