Russell Crowe 'UFO' Sighting Greeted With Skepticism By The Internet, Twitter (VIDEO)

Russell Crowe Catches 'UFO' On Tape; Internet Not So Sure

Russell Crowe saw a UFO last night.

That's right, the "Les Miserables" star claims to have had his very own "close encounter" while trying to catch fruit bats on camera over the Sydney Botanic gardens.

Crowe posted the series of time lapse pictures -- condensed into a YouTube video -- to his Twitter account Tuesday.

The 23-second video, which features a stand of trees at dusk, appears to show a mysterious, disk-like object flying horizontally from the right to left side of the frame.

As skeptics questioned the colorful actor's claim, Crowe defended the pictures via Twitter, insisting it wasn't a trick of the light or errant camera flash. (Although the creepy music is all Crowe.)

Meanwhile, media outlets report that the general response to the alleged extraterrestrial object has been mocking disbelief.

Hundreds of comments posted in response to the YouTube clip include alternative explanations, requests for his drug dealer's number, as well as a smattering of support.

"Cool photos and video. Definitely caught some odd phenomena. 100% UFO," wrote YouTube user "maluminse1."

The New Zealand-born star, who won an Oscar for his chest-beating performance in "Gladiator," is a fairly active social media user with over 800,000 Twitter followers. He often takes to the site to refute dating rumors, including recent gossip that he was intimate with "Les Mis" co-star Samantha Barks.
