Unless, he's changed up his routine, the blazer worn by Dwyane Wade as he testily answered questions following the Miami Heat's loss in Game 1 of the NBA Finals actually arrived in Oklahoma City even before he did. Of course, some might say that Wade has yet to actually arrive based on his uneven performance in Game 1.
During a recent interview with The New York Times Magazine, the 30-year-old Heatles superstar talked about his wardrobe, telling Edward Lewine that his stylist often sends his outfits before he has even arrived in a town for a road game.
"The clothes arrive with a memo from my stylist, Calyann Barnett, outlining which look is for which day," Wade told the Times. "I might say no to a certain look a million times, but she keeps driving. It’s good to have that."
Given the kaleidoscopic looks that Wade has sported throughout these playoffs one can only wonder what he deemed too over the top. How many times did he turn those hot pink pants that he was wearing when he turned up at American Airlines Arena in South Beach for Game 6 of the Heat-Pacers series.
Of course, those pants have fit in during the 2012 NBA Playoffs, where postgame press conferences beg to be parsed by both ESPN and Stylist. While Wade's embrace of bright colors has certainly gained attention, there may not be anything that has garnered more attention than the various prints favored by Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook.
Looking back on the conference playoffs, there is little doubt that the two top teams in the game -- in the gym and in terms of runway-level swag -- have reached the Finals. The Heat and the Thunder are even battling over fashion trends. During an off-day press conference, Westbrook seemed to take credit for the eyeglasses trend that has swept the NBA. This declaration didn't sit well with LeBron James, who later refuted the claim.
"No, that's not right," LeBron said on Wednesday. "There's no story behind it. It's a look. It's a fashion thing."
