Hi-yo Silver! Ryan Gosling may be starring in a big screen version of one of Hollywood's most classic stories.
The Wrap reports that the "Blue Valentine" star is in talks to join Johnny Depp in a film adaptation of the radio and TV serial "The Lone Ranger." Gosling would play the titular masked, western renegade do-gooder; Johnny Depp has already signed on to play his faithful sidekick, Tonto.
The film will be produced by Disney and directed by Gore Verbinski, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" helmer who just made another western film with Depp in "Rango,", the animated comedy that made a big box office splash back in March.
As The Wrap notes, though, scheduling conflicts may prevent Gosling from doing the film at all. He's already signed on to play the titular character in another remake, "Logan's Run," and both films are aiming for a fall shoot date.
Currently, Gosling is filming "The Ides of March" with George Clooney. He'll next appear on the big screen as a ladies' man in the Steve Carell comedy, "Crazy, Stupid Love." He's also been offered a part in the upcoming crime-and-punishment film with Sean Penn, "Gangster Squad." His film "Drive," with Carey Mulligan and Christina Hendricks, will compete at the Cannes Film Festival.
