Ryan Gosling Thinks Like A Girl, Does Ballet

Ryan Gosling Practices Ballet Whenever He Can

Remember the "Feminist Ryan Gosling" blog that co-opted the Ryan Gosling "Hey Girl" meme?

Well it's maybe possible that Gosling goes around quoting gender theory all day long.

"I think like a girl, I think," he told the British newspaper the Independent. "I was literally raised by my mother and my sister. And I feel like I wouldn't know how to think any other way. My sister was my best friend and my hero growing up. Because I was home-schooled I didn't have a lot of friends and I did ballet, which was always just girls. All that stuff had an effect on my brain."

And ballet is something the 30-year-old actor still pursues. Gosling told the newspaper that though he currently has no free time, you can often find him at an L.A. dance studio. "I practice whenever I can," he said, adding that he hasn't been hounded by other students' mothers.

"A lot of the students are young girls so they're there with their mums but they just kind of watch and tell me to keep it up. They try and be positive but I'm so bad. I don't even know what I like about it but it's like acting, I'm just compelled to do it and I do it to find out why. The not knowing is interesting."

Gosling has spoken about his interest in ballet before.

"I have no good reason to be taking ballet lessons. I take like a public class [with] a lot of people who are good and then me. I'm terrible," he told Jimmy Kimmel in January and joked that there were two 7-year-old girls who look at him like "You're old, you're not good, I've seen you in movies and it's weird that you're here."
