HuffPost's Ryan Grim stopped by MSNBC's "NewsNation With Tamron Hall" to discuss a potential government shutdown, which will be imminent should Republicans and Democrats fail to reach a budget compromise by the time funding expires April 8.
Hall showed a clip of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) complaining that Democrats are "dragging their feet" on a compromise and urging the Senate to "pass the damn thing" if they have a plan. Hall asked Grim if Boehner's words were meant for Democrats, or if the Speaker was simply exhibiting "tough talk" to appeal to Tea Party members of Congress.
"What that was about was trying to blame the Senate for an eventual government shutdown," Grim said, explaining that the more lawmakers try to point fingers at one another, a the more probable an actual shutdown becomes.
"Everything we're hearing from both sides is about trying to place blame for who is going to shut down the government," he continued. "And that's evidence that a shutdown is more likely...people moving beyond the negotiating stage to the trying to lay blame on the other side stage."
