Say what you want about Ryan Murphy, but there's no denying he's an unstoppable force in Hollywood. With "American Horror Story" recently premiering its fifth season and "American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson" debuting in February 2016, Murphy has cemented his place in the pantheon of TV's most prolific producers.
The "Glee" creator has now set his sights on a new project with friend and collaborator Gwyneth Paltrow. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy and Paltrow are currently prepping "One Hit Wonders," a musical dramedy series about a group of women who each had hit songs in the '90s and decide to form a supergroup. Paltrow is set to star and executive produce.
The last time we heard about "One Hit Wonders" was in 2012, when Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Paltrow and Murphy came up with the idea for a movie version over dinner. They sold the project to Sony in a seven-figure preemptive deal, but the rights have returned to Murphy after Amy Pascal's exit from Sony earlier this year.
"I love this idea that there is a second act," Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter. The series will most likely have a new story every season á la "American Horror Story" and feature original music.
Here's hoping Paltrow's hilarious "Glee" character Holly Holliday gets an encore.
