Sally Jessy Raphael joined HuffPost Live on Wednesday and revealed the shrewd business deal that made Oprah more successful than other talk show hosts.
During a conversation on Oprah's ability to carve out a space in daytime television that led to her becoming an industry leader, Raphael pointed to how her situation differed. "Oprah could carve it because she owned it," Raphael said. "Let's talk about business. You own a house -- change the color of the house, change the lighting fixtures, do anything you want. I always got a salary check on Friday."
She added, "I wasn't smart like Oprah. I didn't at the very beginning tell them I wanted to own [the talk show]. That's my stupidity and it's stupid because I had to do what they called me in and told me to do."
