Sam Smith Is 'Fat, Effeminate' And An 'Ugly Motherf**ker,' Howard Stern Claims

Sam Smith is currently on a roll with a sold-out tour and a slew of Grammy Award nominations, but one person who isn't convinced that the British singer-songwriter will have career longevity is Howard Stern.

At first, Stern -- who is slated to join "America's Got Talent" once again for the show's 10th season -- called the 22-year-old Smith "fat" and an "ugly motherf**ker" on air, USA Today reports. (WARNING: below video contains graphic language)

When a co-host told him that Smith had come out last year, Stern noted, "He looks gay to me, not that anybody looks gay, but he does seem effeminate. ... I like that he's chubby and gay."

The shock jock then implied Smith would be a one-hit wonder (even though both "Stay With Me" and "I'm Not The Only One" have been radio smashes), before noting, "He's fat and he's gay and little girls worship him ... I'd like to get him in here to congratulate him on beating the odds."

He then added, "He's like the male Adele."

No word from the Smith camp just yet. But E! Online pointed to two of Smith's recent tweets which may or may not constitute his response to Stern's comments:

It's been a rough few days for Smith. Last week, it was reported that the star had split with his new boyfriend, model-dancer Jonathan Zeizel, as implied by an emotional Instagram post and cryptic stage patter.

Meanwhile, reps for the singer confirmed that a copyright dispute with Tom Petty over the melodic similarities between Smith's "Stay With Me" and Petty's "I Won't Back Down" had been amicably settled.

"Although the likeness was a complete coincidence, all involved came to an immediate and amicable agreement in which Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne are now credited as co-writers of 'Stay With Me' along with Sam Smith, James Napier and William Phillips," a spokesperson for Smith told Rolling Stone.
