According to Samsung Hub, a sleek new challenger to the iPod Touch will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show next week.

The Samsung Galaxy Player, as Samsung Hub is unofficially calling the MP3 player, is reportedly an Android-powered device that physically resembles the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.

Samsung Hub
that the Galaxy Player will include the following specs:
  • 9.9mm thick frame
  • Android 2.2 Froyo OS
  • 1GHz CPU
  • 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen supporting up to WVGA resolution (800×480)
  • HD video playback
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS
  • 3.2MP rear camera
  • front-facing VGA camera for video calling
  • microSD card slot

The new line of Galaxy Players will reportedly feature storage capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, as well as support for a T-DMB digital TV tuner. In addition to accessing Samsung's proprietary app store, the devices will also have access to the Android Market, a feature that, Gigaom writes, "is integral to the success of any Android handheld."

Several of these features aim to correct what some saw as shortcomings of the Samsung Galaxy Player 50, which sported a 3.2-inch screen, operated on Android 2.1, and lacked a front-facing camera.

So far, there has been no word about pricing or availability.
