The 24th annual GLAAD media awards took over San Francisco's Hilton Union Square Saturday evening, honoring the best and brightest contributions to the LGBT arts and journalism communities over the past year.

On the local level, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, alongside wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom, was on hand to receive the Golden Gate Award for his unyielding efforts to promote marriage equality. World Series champs the SF Giants, the first sports team to ever be honored by GLAAD, earned the Corporate Leader award for their support of myriad Bay Area LGBT causes.

Meanwhile, international icon and former "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert won the prestigious Davidson/Valentini award after becoming the first LGBT artist to reach number one status on the Billboard 200. Lambert also shared the outstanding musician award with R&B sensation Frank Ocean.
