Sandy Hook Parents Francine And David Wheeler On Protecting the Sacred Hole In Your Heart (VIDEO)

Sandy Hook Parents: Protecting The Sacred Hole In Your Heart

Francine and David Wheeler lost their 6-year-old son, Benjamin, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012. On "Super Soul Sunday," they sit down with Oprah and share with astounding grace and wisdom how they are coping with their loss through courage, strength and love.

In the above clip from Sunday's upcoming episode, Francine imparts a piece of advice that has helped them. "Somebody said to us, 'Okay, you can't ever fill that hole in your heart. That you can't do. But what you can do is, you can cover your heart with all of this love to protect that sacred hole,'" she says.

"You've got to make your heart bigger than the hole," David says.

"Because love can only grow," Francine adds. "That's what you do, is you protect that hole. You can't fill it. You can't fill it, but you can protect it and grow."

"And our job is to make our hearts bigger than the loss now -- bigger than the loss," David says. "And there's only one way to do that. There's only one way. You just have to make your decisions out of love."

"Super Soul Sunday" airs Sunday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. ET on OWN.
