Sanrio's 'Small Gift' At The Santa Monica Barker Hanger

PHOTOS: Hello Kitty Fans Celebrate Sanrio's 50th Anniversary

As promised, it was a party of epic cuteness at Small Gift Los Angeles, a carnival celebration of Sanrio's 50th anniversary. Cotton candy afro wigs, maid outfits, Sanrio character costumes, petticoats, and sweet gothic regalia were everywhere at the kick-off party in the Santa Monica Barker Hanger. Everyone enjoyed free food from mobile eateries Kogi, Fishlips, Shrimp Pimp, Frysmith, and the Grilled Cheese Truck. Folks also lined up for free dessert from Beard Papa and Yogurtland. Guests were given an adorable Sanrio tote filled with Japanese candy, an item from Sephora's upcoming 2011 Hello Kitty make-up line, Sanrio accessories, and a tome cataloging 50 years of Hello Kitty's appeal.

Kimora Lee Simmons (she's just launched a Hello Kitty-themed jewelry line), Pete Wentz (who contributed to the art gallery) and Ashlee Simpson, and sisters Lisa and Laura Ling were among the celebs who came to honor Sanrio. Others spotted at the event: singer Lisa Loeb, actor Erik Estrada, Disney starlet Bella Thorne, and jewelry designer Tarina Tarantino.

Small Gift Los Angeles officially opens today from 10am-10pm. Sanrio fans who pay a visit to this free festival (it runs until November 21) can expect carnival games, miniature golf, an art gallery, pop-up shop, rotating food trucks, workshops, and parties. See the complete schedule for more information.
