Santa Barbara Earthquake: A 4.6 Magnitude Quake Hits Near Isla Vista

Earthquake Rattles Santa Barbara & Malibu

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake shook residents in the Santa Barbara, Calif. area on Wednesday at 7:38 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter of the earthquake is being reported as 3 miles west of Isla Vista and 12 miles west of Santa Barbara.

While the USGS first reported the quake was a 4.9 magnitude, it was later downgraded to 4.6, reports ABC. A 2.6 aftershock hit the same area at 7:50 a.m.

The quake was felt in the Bakersfield, Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo areas. SoCal residents took to Twitter in response to the jolt and one user, @izacmann, said he felt the quake all the way in the Marina Del Rey, which is approximately 100 miles south of Isla Vista.

According to KTLA, there have been no reports of serious damage or injury.
