Santa Claus Is Coming To North Pole City Council. Seriously.

Anyone who doesn't vote for him will be put on the naughty list.

No, the headline is not a joke.

A man legally named Santa Claus is running as a write-in candidate for a city council seat in North Pole, Alaska, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports. The village, which is about 13 miles outside of Fairbanks, is holding its elections on Tuesday.

To my friends in North Pole, Alaska: This Tuesday, please write me in on your election ballot and vote for me for North Pole City Council at North Pole City Hall. Thank you :-)}

Claus has a good chance of winning, since there are only two people competing for two open seats. The other contender, La Nae Bellamy, has also launched a write-in campaign.

As the former head of the North Pole Chamber of Commerce -- a role he took on in 2013 -- Claus is no stranger to holding a position in office.

Claus testified in June in front of the city council in favor of selling marijuana in North Pole, citing his own use of medical marijuana.
