Rick Santorum Explains Mitt Romney Endorsement On Leno

Santorum Explains Late-Night Romney Endorsement

Rick Santorum appeared on 'The Tonight Show' Tuesday and explained why he waited until 11 p.m. Monday night to send an email to his supporters asking them to unite behind Mitt Romney.

“I thought you would be in bed at 11:00 at night," Leno said.

"We have seven kids so we don’t sleep," Santorum replied. When Leno pressed him about a late-night email coming across as "tepid," Santorum said he just needed the time.

"It was a rough-and-tumble campaign," he said. "I can’t say it would have been an easy thing the next day to turn around and say, ‘Let’s just go forward.’ It was tough and so I wanted an opportunity to, sort of, think about it a little bit and [let the] family think about it.”

While he was still in the race, Santorum said of Romney, "Pick any other Republican in the country. He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama."
