It's always unfortunate when schools fall victim to ironic errors, as is the case for Sapulpa Public Schools in Oklahoma, where the district's headquarters prominently boasts a misspelled "SAPULPA PUBLIC SHCOOLS" sign above the entrance.
What's worse, the misspelled signage went unnoticed for days after a third party contractor was hired to install the letters during the district's fall break, KTUL reports. The mistake was corrected by Monday, according to KOKH.
"We strive to provide excellence in everything we do, every day. For three and a half days last week, we missed the mark. We will accept this as our responsibility and will continue to look for ways to do better in the future," Superintendent Kevin Burr wrote in a district-wide email.
Nearby residents have told other local stations, however, that the misspelled signage had existed for months, not days.
"It's sad for our schools, because our schools are wonderful," former school employee Anna Vest said.
The same misspelling took to the streets of New York City when the words "SHCOOL X-NG" were painted into the pavement outside Marta Valle High School on the Lower East Side. Officials from the city Department of Transportation said the error was not the city's, but a utility provider's. The mistake was corrected the next day.
