Sarah Brown Names Naomi Campbell As Her '21st-Century Heroine'

Guardian UK reports that Britain's Sarah Brown named supermodel Naomi Campbell as her 21st-century heroine" in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar, calling her "a fearless challenger of the established position if she sees the need for change, whether in her call for greater diversity in the media, or the demand for greater focus in international development on women's health and rights."

Brown also called Campbell generous, authentic, hard-working, beautiful, sincere, direct and "impatient in a good way."

The supermodel has been involved in multiple charity projects in Sub-Saharan Africa and has worked with Nelson Mandela. She also helped create "Fashion Relief" in 2005, which raised over $1 million for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Campbell does, however, have a reputation for violence after pleading guilty to assaulting an assistant with a telephone, allegedly slapping another assistant with her BlackBerry, assaulting her housekeeper with a jewel-encrusted mobile phone and reportedly assaulting a police officer at London's Heathrow airport.

Other heroes named in the Harper's article include Stella McCartney, Michelle Obama, Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Iraqi-born founder of Women for Women International Zainab Salbi.
