During an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday night, Sarah Palin responded to recent criticism from Dick Cheney about her role as Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) vice presidential running mate in the 2008 election.
"That one I don't think was well handled," Cheney recently told ABC News on the selection of the former Alaska governor. "The test to get on that small list has to be, ‘Is this person capable of being president of the United States?’"
After saying that he likes Palin, he continued, "I've met her. I know her. She -- attractive candidate. But based on her background, she’d only been governor for, what, two years. I don't think she passed that test ... of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake."
Responding to the remarks, Palin said that Cheney appears to be convinced of a "false narrative" that the "lamestream media" has perpetuated for the last four years.
"Dick Cheney believed that stuff, and that's a shame," she said. "So he characterized me as being a mistake."
Palin argued that the real mistake would have been not answering the call to run alongside McCain.
Asked about Cheney's recollection of a tearful admission from Condoleezza Rice in his memoir and the appearance that he's not afraid to make critical remarks about women, Palin said, "Everybody misfires once in a while. And you know what? In the GOP establishment, what I have found, Greta, sometimes you're the Louisville slugger, baby. Sometimes, you're the ball. And evidently, in these last months, per many, many comments from those within the GOP establishment, I'm the ball."
