Sarah Palin Takes In The Kentucky Derby, Makes Losing Bet On 'Frac Daddy'

Sarah Palin Makes A Bad Bet

Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin attended her first Kentucky Derby over the weekend, making a statement with a bet on a horse named "Frac Daddy." It didn't pay off.

"Frac Daddy, the name alone warranted a bet," Palin said on Sunday, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. She went on to call the entire event a "wonderful experience."

The horse, a play off the controversial hydraulic fracturing method of natural-gas extraction, finished 16th out of 19. Orb and jockey Joel Rosario won the race.

On Sunday, Palin took part in a fundraiser, but not the kind the tea party celebrity has become known for. Attending a post-Derby brunch event for the Headley-Whitney Museum in Lexington, Ky. Palin said she was thrilled at the chance to take in some apolitical entertainment.

"A weekend in Kentucky versus being entrenched in the political world, for a weekend, it's heavenly, it's wonderful," Palin said, according to WLEX.

Palin flew to Kentucky straight from Houston, Texas, where she delivered a speech at the National Rifle Association's annual convention.
