Scarlett Johansson will star in a revival of the Tennessee Williams drama "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" on Broadway this winter, according to reports citing an announcement made Thursday by the play's producer Stuart Thompson.

Johansson will play Maggie the Cat, the headstrong beauty portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1958 film adaptation of the play. She will star opposite Benjamin Walker, who plays Maggie's husband Brick. Walker, who starred in Broadway's "Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson," as well as the movie "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," reportedly beat out Jeremy Renner and Chris Pine for the role.

The New York Times reports that Johansson has been after the role of Maggie for "some time," suggesting she willed the oft-revived production into existence on the strength of her "box office star power."

Johansson last appeared on Broadway in another Thompson-produced show: the 2010 revival of Arthur Miller's "A View From The Bridge," for which she won a Tony.
