Cringe-y Interview Shows Us Exactly Why Hollywood Is 'Disappointing' Scarlett Johansson

Scarlet Johansson’s name stuck out on the list of Hollywood's highest grossing actors released last week. Not only was she the sole woman to break the top 10, but two of her "Avengers" co-stars were ahead of her.

Although film gross may not be the most scientific way to gauge pay inequality in Hollywood, seeing how far down the next actress fell on the list -- Cameron Diaz, at No. 19 -- served as stark of a reminder of how much progress there is to be made for women in the business.

“It's exciting to be the only woman in the category,” Johansson explained to Extra at the Gene Siskel Film Center's annual gala on June 30. “It is kind of disappointing, actually, to be the only woman in this category. That was a little bit of a surprise to me," she added.

But instead of allowing the actress to expand on her comments or engaging in a much-needed dialogue about sexism in Hollywood, the Extra interviewer then inexplicably launched into a line of questioning on motherhood, of all things, asking: "How do you maintain being a mother and taking care of the terrible twos for a toddler?"

(If that terrible Sarah Jessica Parker movie "I Don't Know How She Does It" or every red carpet interview with a celebrity mother didn't answer that question for you ...)

He had apparently not heard of the Representation Project's campaign #AskHerMore, created in 2014 for the express purpose of challenging reporters to ask actresses more substantial questions than ones covering outfits, dating and parenting.

But he wasn't done!

After Johansson politely responded with a "thumbs up" for working moms, the interviewer ended the exchange with a hard-hitting "Do you change dirty diapers still?"
