Scary Spice Home: Melanie Brown Lists Valley Home For $3.45 Million (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Is Scary Spice Unseasoned In Real Estate?

There is much to be learned from celebrities, much of it in the "don't do as they do" category. Certainly throwing away money in this housing market by renovating a place you don't intend to stay in ranks right up there as a celebrity no-no lesson.

Melanie Brown -- better known as Scary Spice of Spice Girls fame (for those with scorecards, she is the one who did not marry David Beckham) and her husband film producer Stephen Belafonte, have listed their 8,204-square-foot Tarzana home for $3.45 million. I don't care if it is south of the Boulevard! This is the San Fernando Valley, and who in their scary mind spends $3.159 million for a house in the Valley in 2010 and then dumps another million into it? Were they thinking the real estate market was going to miraculously turn around?

The impressive-if-misguided renovations included a professional gym, a detached state-of-the-art movie theater and a detached recording studio -- all built since they bought it less than two years ago. The home has a master suite described in the MLS as "majestic," and large public rooms. The MLS says the property has "5-star resort-like grounds" and the home certainly has an enviable outdoor living area with a chandeliered dining room, an outdoor kitchen, and an outdoor living room with a flat-screen TV. But has anyone been outside in the Valley in say, August? Bring on the water misters, I say. The property has a lovely pool, which at least makes sense.

The former Spice Girl -- an all-girl pop group that was huge in the 1990s -- has since been working as a solo singer, actress and author. She had her own reality TV show on the Style Network in 2010, "Mel B: It’s a Scary World.” Indeed it is for real estate.

Charmaine DeGrate of Coldwell Banker Beverly Hills South has the listing.
