Play Time for Grownups: Scavenger Hunts in Los Angeles

Ready, Set, Go!: LA Scavenger Hunts Explore the City

Exercise your body and your competitive streak while getting to know Los Angeles more intimately than you already do by participating in an LA-based scavenger hunt. During these professionally organized events, teams navigate the city via a series of clues (hint: know your LA trivia!) competing for prizes -- and sometimes tacos. Here are four Los Angeles scavenger hunts taking place this summer.

Culver City Exposed: This scavenger hunt promises to reveal the often glamorous--and sometimes seedy--history of the Culver City that existed before chic wine bars and trendy restaurants took over the community’s historic district. Clues will guide teams of happy hunters on a chase through murder sites and movie stars populating the Old Hollywood past of this seemingly sleepy community. June 18 and 19, 2pm, $25 per person (outoftheboxevents.com)Race LA: This day-long hunt is loosely based on "The Amazing Race," which means teams of two will trek to locations both famous and obscure throughout Los Angeles with intermittent challenges thrown in for good measure. Make sure to train appropriately, as organizers advise that “running is optional, but often advantageous.”June 18, 9:30am, $95 per person (racela.com)The Amazing Gourmet Food Truck Race: Food trucks are a signature Los Angeles trend, and hungry scavengers can simultaneously explore the city and its mobile munching culture during this foodie friendly hunt. Clues will guide teams to dozens of snacks from trucks including Border Grill, NaanStop, CoolHaus and Lardon. This alone seems like a prize.June 25, 11am, $59.99 per person (/foodtruckrace.eventbrite.com/)

City Solve Urban Race: This city spanning adventure bills itself as a real life game of Trivial Pursuit, and includes clues on topics such as math, history and pop culture. You’ll need more than your wits to win though; Urban Race also includes physical challenges like building a house of cards or identifying a flavor of ice cream. The grand prize is $300, but everyone who plays gets food and drinks at the end.July 30, 12pm, $40 per person through June 30 (citysolveurbanrace.com)
