Schiaparelli has officially returned to the runway courtesy of Christian Lacroix. In Paris today, Lacroix presented his much-anticipated haute couture collection for the Schiaparelli brand, which is currently undergoing a revival.
Surrealist fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli closed her fashion label in 1954 and died in 1973. But in 2006, Tod's CEO Diego Della Valle purchased Schiaparelli's trademarks and archives in order to resuscitate the brand, and in 2012, he announced he was on the hunt for a creative director.
Lacroix, whose eponymous label shuttered in 2009, is not Della Valle's designer of choice for the full-time gig. But this April, he was tapped to design a capsule collection as a tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli to be shown during Couture Week...
... and it's finally here! Today, Lacroix's models walked down the Paris runway in outfits that paid homage to Schiaparelli's design aesthetic, including bright pink, wild hats and architectural garments. It was playful, fanciful and utterly Schiap. Check it out in the photos below!
