We Finally Know Schmidt's Full Name On 'New Girl' After Six Seasons

Sounds awfully familiar.

WARNING: Spoilers below for the latest “New Girl” episode.

Winston Schmidt.

For five-and-a-half years, fans of Fox’s “New Girl” only knew Max Greenfield’s character by his last name. Eventually, the show’s writers began toying with its audience, teasing what comes before “Schmidt” on the character’s wedding invitations and annoyingly not revealing it.

Until now: Winston. Winston Schmidt. The very same name as another main “New Girl” character, Lamorne Morris’ Winston Bishop.

It all came out after Schmidt decided to “launch [his] own brand,” which should really be considered a Douchebag Jar offense, and confronted his friend about using the name again.

“Schmidt, I think that is a very bad idea,” Winston replies, adding that there “ain’t nothing but pain down that road.”

“I have no choice. When I was born, my parents gave me a name,” countered the man formerly known only as Schmidt. “It is the name I was called for most of my life, and I want my name back.”

Watch the moment unfold in all its cathartic glory above.

“New Girl” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
