Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) is banking on fears of the left to raise money in his tough reelection fight against Harvard Law professor Elizabeth Warren.
"THE LEFT's NEW STAR" reads a fundraising blast from the Brown campaign sent Wednesday.
The appeal quotes Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas, former White House adviser Van Jones, and a subhead from the New York Times (which is called a headline in the appeal), all from the Netroots Nation conference earlier in June.
"In ten days, on June 30th, Warren and I will file our FEC Campaign Disclosure Reports. Hers will be chock-full of Hollywood money and checks from all over the country from those who subscribe to herOccupy Everything philosophy," continues the email.
The email is part of Brown's strategy to paint Warren as too liberal for Massachusetts, which contrary to the state's national image, has a majority of independent voters. His campaign has attacked Warren over her past claims of Native American heritage, while airing positive television ads. The controversy has faded somewhat since Warren acknowledged that she listed herself as Native American to Harvard and Penn after she was hired and criticized Brown for the attack. Polls have shown that voters didn't think the controversy was relevant and still show a tied race.
