Scott Pelley was reportedly ordered to apologize for the way he treated CBS News staffers in Washington D.C., according to the New York Post on Tuesday.
Sources said that the "CBS Evening News" anchor had antagonized staffers with what the newspaper described as his "brusque treatment" of them. The animosity among staffers, one source said, "had been building up for a long time. Scott was ordered to go to the DC bureau on Thursday to offer an apology. It had gotten really bad in the past few weeks, and he was told by management to get his ass to DC."
When asked about the report, Pelley's spokesperson told the New York Post, "Scott is often in Washington, was a correspondent there for many years, and talks all the time with members of the team."
Earlier this month, the Post also reported that Pelley raged at one of its reporters, who had been working on a story about Pelley allegedly losing his temper at CBS News staffers. The allegation — which Pelley denied — was that he threw a fit about John Miller's State Department scoop breaking on "CBS This Morning" instead of his newscast. He told the reporter, "How long have you been a journalist? You wouldn’t last ten seconds at CBS News."
Earlier this month, Pelley also drew Megyn Kelly's ire when he said that cable news draws far fewer viewers than broadcast news. She responded by saying that Fox News beat CBS News during the presidential debates and on election night.
