Scott Walker, Wisconsin Governor, Cancels GOP Fundraiser Appearance Amidst Protest, Recall Plans

Scott Walker Backs Out Of GOP Event Amidst Protest Plans

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), who is currently under threat of being recalled from office, is canceling his plans to attend a GOP fundraiser in Wichita, Kan., and labor unions are taking the credit.

Walker was set to appear with Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Nov. 15. Walker was still listed on the Sedgwick County Republican Party's announcement about the event as of Saturday morning.

But in a statement to the Wichita Eagle, a spokesperson for the Wisconsin Republican Party said, "The Governor will no longer be appearing."

The Wichita/Hutchinson Labor Federation was claiming credit for Walker's cancellation on its website:

Thousands of Kansas workers led by the Wichita/Hutchinson Labor Federation and the Working Kansas Alliance had planned to protest Walker's policies and his appearance at the fundraiser. Several busses full of protestors were set to arrive in Wichita from all corners of the state.

"Obviously this is a victory for working Kansans," said Wichita/Hutchinson Labor Federation president Judy Pierce. "Governor Walker's anti-worker policies have made headlines across the country, but Kansans are facing some of the very same attacks here courtesy of Governor Brownback."

WHLF also told the Eagle that the chartered buses were to bring in thousands of protesters.

Neither Walker's office nor the national RNC returned a request for comment from The Huffington Post.

On Tuesday, Walker may also have his hands full in his own state.

An effort to recall Walker from office kicks off on that day, when opponents of the governor will start gathering signatures to trigger a recall election. The group We Are Milwaukee plans to hold a protest outside of the governor's home in Milwaukee.
