Screen On The Green Announces 2012 Schedule

Finally, Screen On The Green Announces Summer Schedule

WASHINGTON -- D.C.'s finest outdoor movie series has finally announced its 2012 schedule. The Screen on the Green films will begin July 16 and conclude Aug. 6.

The film series -- taking place on the National Mall between 7th and 12th streets, will bring four classic movies, ranging from a romantic comedy to a war thriller in a patriotic setting.

The all-too-short series begins with "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" on July 16. Our pick for the series is the 1934 classic romantic, sexist-but-in-the-end-not-so-sexist, comedy "It Happened One Night" on July 25.

"From Here to Eternity" is on July 30. "Psycho" -- not the Gus Van Sant version -- concludes the series on Aug. 6.

The screenings will occur rain or shine. Lightning is the only thing that will prevent a showing.

Each movie will begin at sunset. Arrive early. While there's always space on the sides of the lawn, prime blanket real estate is taken upwards of an hour before showtime.

Outdoor summer movies are in full swing around the area. View our other picks for these free films.
