Meet Sean McComb, Who Was Just Named The 2014 National Teacher Of The Year

Meet The 2014 Teacher Of The Year!

The 2014 National Teacher of the Year, Sean McComb, doesn't see teaching as a "thankless" job, but rather one where the thank-you's "are more private."

"[The thank-you's] come in student notes, visits back to the classroom from students after they’ve left your company, and them coming back and telling you how thankful they are for the work that you did," McComb told HuffPost Live on Wednesday.

The Council of Chief State School Officers named McComb -- a 30-year-old English teacher at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts in Baltimore -- National Teacher of the Year on Wednesday. On Thursday, President Barack Obama is set to honor McComb and state Teachers of the Year at the White House.

When speaking with HuffPost Live, McComb talked about some of the challenges educators are facing today.

“Obviously we’re going under a shift with the Common Core Standards and I think that it’s really important that we focus on getting this implementation right and that we’re getting teachers the resources and support they need to do their job well … I think in order to meet those shifting needs and increased outcomes for our students we need to increase what we invest in the process,” McComb said.
