Super-star real estate broker Dolly Lenz presented viewers with one of the most prestigious and difficult-to-get-into locations, Manhattan's The Dakota, on "Secret Lives of the Super Rich: Mega-Homes" (Mon., 9 p.m. ET on CNBC). The luxury apartment building boasts a stunning French design and classic look -- thanks in large part to it being approximately 130 years old.
While Lenz was showing the building, and a three-bedroom apartment therein, to a prospective couple, she shared some of the impressive former residents of the home, as well as some of the famous names who weren't approved by the board. These include Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, Billy Joel and Cher.
The building is perhaps most famously associated with John Lennon, who lived there with Yoko On0 from 1973 until he was shot and killed in the entrance of The Dakota in 1980. The building has a lot of history in its ornate architectural design, and in the story of its tenants over all those decades.
Lenz cracked a joke that she was confident even she wouldn't get approved to live in the building by the board, but the couple she was showing the apartment did. For only $5.65 million, they were able to purchase the three-bedroom apartment.
